For the tennis fans amongst us, summer doesn’t officially begin until the gates open at Wimbledon for the oldest and most prestigious tournament in the world! One of our favourite traditions associated with English tennis fever is the simple yet delicious serving of strawberries and cream, which inspired us to create our Strawberry Fields Flapjack.
It is at this time of year when fresh berries in England are at their juiciest and this wonderful tradition began during the first ever tournament in 1877. At Wimbledon, nearly 9,000 servings are prepared each day, that’s more than a whopping 23 tonnes of strawberries throughout the whole two-week tournament, plus 1,800 gallons of cream! Wow!
Only strawberries of the highest quality from the county of Kent make the grade and are picked the day before being served, arriving at Wimbles at about 5.30am. If you weren’t lucky enough to land yourself a pair of centre court tickets, then here is how you can make your own Wimbledon Fancy…
Simply Wash, dry and hull the strawberries and drizzle some double cream over the sweet strawberries. We recommend 10 strawberries and 120ml of double cream per person.
Short of time or short of strawberries? You can order a box of our delicious Strawberry Fields Flapjacks and place on a tiered cake stand for afternoon tea.
