Valentines Easy Home-Baked Chocolate & Caramel Flapjack Bites....Made with Love!

You will need...1 Medium Saucepan, 22cm Square Baking Tin, Heatproof Bowl, Wooden Spoon, Cutting Knife, Baking Parchment.

Flapjack Ingredients

  • 350g Oats (Use gluten free oats for a gluten free flapjack recipe!)
  • 200g Soft Brown Sugar
  • 200g Butter (with a little extra for greasing the baking tin)
  • 397g Canned Caramel
  • 200g Milk Chocolate
  • 2 Tbsp Golden Syrup
  • 1 Tbsp Sunflower Oil

Flapjack Recipe

1. Pre-heat the oven to 150C/130C fan/gas 2. Put the sugar, butter and golden syrup together in a saucepan and gently heat until the butter has melted, stirring occasionally.

2. Take the saucepan off the heat and stir in the oats, mixing thoroughly. Pour the mixture into a lined and lightly greased 22cm square tin, pressing the mixture out evenly using the back of a wooden spoon. Bake in the centre of the oven for 40-45 mins.

3. Let the mixture cool in the baking tin for 10 mins (or for best results, leave to cool completely overnight), then evenly spread the caramel over the oat mix. (If the caramel looks too thin before spreading, pop it into a pan and boil for just a few minutes, stirring. Then leave to cool completely before spreading- it should be thicker.)

4. Melt the chocolate in a heatproof bowl over a pan of low simmering water, then stir in the oil and pour over the chilled caramel flapjack base. Let the chocolate set, and then cut into bite-size squares, approx 3cm x 3cm. Ta-Dah!

Baking Tip: You can decorate the top of the chocolate with some crushed honey-comb pieces sprinkled on the top, or some grated white chocolate sprinkles on top, best to add this just before the milk chocolate topping starts to set.

Serving Tip: Once the flapjack bites are ready to serve, why not wrap them up in gift box or clear cellophane with a red ribbon for a special Valentine treat.
