Fred has been our iconic Friar since the early 90s, evolving his look and style as times have passed.

Most of our customers recognise our products globally because of Fred and his delicious product range.  Our production facilities started in a small bakery site on ‘Blackfriars Street’ in the heart of Leicester city. The Blackfriars, a Dominican order, came to Leicester in the mid-13th century and established themselves in an existing church, St Clement’s. The friary was dissolved by Henry VIII and the church was demolished soon after 1536 but the name of the order has survived.

Blackfriars Bakery is now based in South Wigston where our production facilities have trebled from our humble beginnings.  We are extremely proud of our Leicestershire roots (2016 Premier League Champions!) and our company name which is steeped in so much history.  Something we hope that Will Shakespeare would approve of.
