Strawberries and Cream

Every year about 27,000 kilos of strawberries are eaten during the Wimbledon Tennis Championships, together with 7,000 litres of cream. The popularity of serving strawberries with cream is possibly as old as the event itself. The club held its first tennis championships in 1877. They were witnessed by a few hundred spectators in what is described as a “garden party atmosphere.” Today, the Wimbledon championships are attended by more than 500,000 people as well as carried to millions around the world through mass media and the Internet.

Blackfriars has successfully captured the ‘taste of Wimbledon’ in the Strawberry Fields Flapjack – a delicious blend of strawberries and cream that taste of summer. So this month, to celebrate the Wimbledon season, why not treat yourself to a box of Strawberry Fields Flapjacks to enjoy whilst watching the game?

Go Murray, Go!

Flapjacks – a guilty pleasure

Guilty pleasures: Flapjacks

Our favourite meals needn’t be the gut-busters we think they are.  Nutritionist FIONA HUNTER wrote in the Daily mail about Flapjacks earlier this year.

“Undeniably delicious, like all foods that combine fat and sugar, there’s no way the flapjack could ever be described as healthy.

It’s true that oats, the main ingredient, are an excellent source of fibre and provide useful amounts of vitamins B1, B2 and B6.

Also, the fibre in oats is the soluble, cholesterol-busting variety and the carbohydrate is the low GI, wholegrain variety”

Blackfriars Bakery

I really had to write to say
I’m just so glad you came  my way
Your products are the best by far
In fact I rate them all five star
If you host a party or a do
It must be” Blackfriars Products” for you
Blackfriars Products are really great
So tell your family and your mate
In summer winter autumn and spring
Blackfriars Products are just the thing
Blackfriars give you so much more
Quality value and that’s for sure
You will pay your bill and still be jolly
With Blackfriars bargains you will all save Lolly
Blackfriars Products make your life complete
The opposition just can’t compete
I send my best to management and staff
And hope this rhyme gives them a laugh
These words are true I do not jest
Blackfriars Products are just the best
