Every year about 27,000 kilos of strawberries are eaten during the Wimbledon Tennis Championships, together with 7,000 litres of cream. The popularity of serving strawberries with cream is possibly as old as the event itself. The club held its first tennis championships in 1877. They were witnessed by a few hundred spectators in what is described as a “garden party atmosphere.” Today, the Wimbledon championships are attended by more than 500,000 people as well as carried to millions around the world through mass media and the Internet.
Blackfriars has successfully captured the ‘taste of Wimbledon’ in the Strawberry Fields Flapjack – a delicious blend of strawberries and cream that taste of summer. So this month, to celebrate the Wimbledon season, why not treat yourself to a box of Strawberry Fields Flapjacks to enjoy whilst watching the game?

Here are is a fact that you might not have known about coffee to consider as you enjoy your coffee and flapjack this morning. More than 50% of U.S. adults drink at least one cup of coffee a day – but they are not the world’s largest coffee consumers. That honor belongs to Finland, followed by West Germany. Guilty pleasures: Flapjacks
Our favourite meals needn’t be the gut-busters we think they are. Nutritionist FIONA HUNTER wrote in the Daily mail about Flapjacks earlier this year.
“Undeniably delicious, like all foods that combine fat and sugar, there’s no way the flapjack could ever be described as healthy.
It’s true that oats, the main ingredient, are an excellent source of fibre and provide useful amounts of vitamins B1, B2 and B6.
Also, the fibre in oats is the soluble, cholesterol-busting variety and the carbohydrate is the low GI, wholegrain variety”

Green coffee beans keep for up to a year with no change in quality if they are kept in a cool, dry place. Once the coffee beans are roasted, however, they begin to lose their flavor after about 48 hours.

Here are is a fact that you might not have known about coffee to consider as you enjoy your coffee and flapjack this morning. Espresso has less caffeine than drip coffee. Espresso is made by forcing hot water through ground coffee under high pressure. This limits the amount of time that the water is in contact with the coffee beans, thus extracting the flavor but leaving a lot of the caffeine behind.

Say it with flapjacks instead?
We have just had an order from a recruitment company who had a rather novel idea for making their newly placed member of staff welcome on their first day in their new job. They ordered a mixed box of flapjacks from us to be sent to the new member of staffs office. They were addressed to her with the instruction that it might be an idea to give out a flapjacks or two to each member of her news team.
We were happy to help put and the flapjacks went down well in the office and help to establish her a a new member of the team.
We’ve not heard about using flapjacks as a team building tool before but there is a first time for everything

Flapjacks tend to be eaten as a mid morning or mid afternoon snack to keep hunger at bay. But that is not the only way you can eat your flapjack. I’d love to hear different ways of eating your favourite Blackfriars flapjack.
Last week we had an e-mail from one long standing customer who heats his Bakewell flapjack in the microwave for 30 sends and then adds warm custard and a delicious pudding. In the name of customer research I tried this out myself and can promise you it is delicious!
Have you tried doing somthing different with your flapkack? We’ll send a prize to the most mouth watering idea!
